Entitlement

Douneside House is open to serving and retired commissioned Officers of the British Armed Services (including the Reserve Forces and Officers of the Air Training Corps, Army Cadet Corps and Sea Cadets) and their accompanying families and guests. Commissioned Officers, both serving and retired, of any NATO and Commonwealth countries are also welcome.

Non-entitled immediate family (parents, adult children and siblings of entitled officers) may also come to Douneside provided they are sponsored by the entitled officer.  The sponsor does not need to be present.  Non-entitled friends may come to Douneside only when accompanied by that Officer.

Widows and widowers of entitled officers are very welcome to continue visiting Douneside.

10% Discount Incentive Scheme

Introduce new entitled guests to Douneside and you'll be eligible for a 10% discount during your next visit.  Your friends will also receive a 10% discount for their first visit.

This scheme will run for an introductory period of 3 years, from March 2011.  Terms and conditions apply - please see tariff.

2012/13 Guest Season Dates:

  • 2012:
  • 10-13 February 2012 - 3 nights for the price of 2
  • 02-05 March 2012 - 3 nights for the price of 2
  • 05 - 10 April 2012 - Easter
  • 29 April - 14 October - main guest season
  • 23-28 December Christmas - we take bookings from 9 Janaury 2012

Special rates of 7 nights for the price of 5, 5 nights for the price of 4 and 3 nights for the price of 2 are available from time to time - please see special offers

Special offers cannot be applied retrospectively to existing bookings.

Please note that we have a minimum two night stay policy from mid-July through to the end of August.

We may be able to provide self-catering cottages (Gatehouse or Pine) for winter holidays (skiing, walking, mountaineering etc) outside the above dates.  Please telephone for availability.

Douneside House is a terrific location for every kind of holiday, whether you want to get away from it all for a few days, or take a longer family break.

It is a place for people of all ages. It doesn't matter if you are in your 20s or 70s we guarantee that you will find lots to do.

The MacRobert Trust helps meet the cost of maintaining the House and Gardens, which means we can offer excellent rates in comparison with hotels and other accommodation. 

Furthermore, our attention to detail and the peace of mind we offer makes the Douneside experience one to remember.

There are excellent leisure facilities on site, delightful countryside surrounding the estate and a large number of attractions on our doorstep.

Hard-pressed mothers and fathers will find plenty to occupy their young ones. They will also appreciate the superb value that Douneside House provides - under 5s stay free and there are special rates for children in full-time education.  We also provide child-friendly facilities.

If you prefer a slower pace, our tranquil gardens and grounds provide a spectacular setting in which to take it easy. As one of our guests remarked recently: "This is truly a little piece of heaven."

There are so many options it is a good idea to call us before you arrange your holiday - we are happy to tell you all you need to know about making the most of Douneside House.

Booking Procedure

We do not do internet bookings as we have to verify eligibility.  Please telephone or e-mail your booking requirements.  When making a booking, we require the following information:

 

  • Name; rank, or former rank; address – post code first; telephone number; e-mail address.
  • If you are bringing other guests, we also need the above information, particularly whether your guest is entitled to discount or not
  • If sharing with others, please let us know how your bill is to be split– especially within the cottages.
  • If you are bringing young children, please let us know: their ages; if high tea is required; if cot, camp bed or bed guards/rails required.
  • Please let us know if you wish to bring a dog - only specified cottages.
  • A deposit is not required, but a cancellation fee may be charged if a booking is cancelled within 1 month of the due arrival date - please see tariff for details.
