We re-open on the 1st of October and we are very much looking forward to welcoming our guests back to Douneside House!
We have included some information on this page to help communicate the steps we have taken to create a safe and welcoming atmosphere for all visitors to Douneside House.
We have reviewed our entire operation to ensure we create a very safe environment whilst not losing the character and relaxed atmosphere that our guests are accustomed to. We have had to make some adjustments to how we work, how we interact with colleagues and guests, how we look after the hotel and health club, and how we deliver our guest service – to maintain the highest standards of safety and hygiene at all times in line with government guidance.
Please note that due to government guidelines issued to ensure public health during the current global pandemic, we are unable to accommodate any groups bigger than six guests, from a maximum of two different households.
The use of masks is mandatory in hotel and health club public areas unless you are seated in our bar, Library or Conservatory restaurant. Hand sanitiser will be available throughout the hotel and health club, we ask that you please use these before entering different areas. We'd be most grateful if you could follow the safety signage on display.
We have updated team protocols, and an enhanced set of hygiene and safety measures that meet or exceed government guidelines, have been implemented across our hotel and health club to provide even greater peace of mind during your time with us. We will, of course, continue to work with public health authorities to enable us to adjust and update those measures in line with the very latest guidance.
Douneside House has always focused on offering some of the finest Scottish hospitality, where we welcome you from the stresses of everyday life – so it’s important to note that none of the changes we’ve made will compromise that; on the contrary they’ve been carefully designed and implemented to ensure you can focus on enjoying yourself.
If you are considering booking with us in the future, we ask that you familiarise yourself with our new approach and help us to protect the wellbeing of everyone who comes to Douneside House.
Our Front of House team will be ready to welcome you with the usual warm Douneside welcome. We would ask that you remain aware of social distancing and, in line with Government guidance, wear a mask when you are moving around the building. Our team will still provide our usual welcome and (if it's your first time visiting) guided tour. Our public spaces and health club will be deep cleaned in the morning, afternoon and evening (and high contact surfaces will be regularly cleaned throughout the day).
Our experienced housekeeping team are undertaking many additional cleaning routines ahead of your visit and your room or cottage will be fully sanitised ahead of your arrival. To minimise interaction, we won’t provide our usual daily housekeeping service (but extra toiletries and fresh towels will be provided on request throughout your stay). If you would prefer your room or cottage serviced each day of your stay, we would be delighted to arrange this at a time when the room is vacant.
Please note that due to the most recent Government guidelines, we are unable to accommodate any groups bigger than six guests, from a maximum of two different households, dining together.
We have reduced the capacity of both our Library and Conservatory restaurant and so our restaurants are currently strictly by reservation only, regrettably we will not be able to accommodate you without a reservation. We know many visitors previously enjoy dropping in for lunch or coffee and cake, unfortunately, this will not be possible during this time. Our bar is reserved for hotel guests only and our bar hours have changed temporarily. Our bar will be open from 1200-1830 and 2030-2300 each day and it will be table service only during this time.
We’ve had to make some adaptions to our dining experiences, please explore our ‘dining page’ for more information and to view our latest menus.
We have made some changes to ensure the Health Club can remain open, with social distancing and other measures safely in place.
We’re delighted that our pool, spa pool, gymnasium and fitness classes all remain available. Regrettably, we have had to close our sauna and steam room at this time, to comply with Government regulations. In addition, to ensure plenty space for gym users, our games room is also not available currently.
In line with guidance and to adhere to revised physical distancing capacities within the health club all visitors (including members and hotel guests) must pre-book their visit for a swim, gym or fitness class session a maximum of 7 days in advance, you will not be able to walk in and use the facilities. This can be done via our ‘health club page.’
We ask that guests come dressed for their gym session or swimming session if possible.
Children under the age of 16yrs must have an adult (over the age of 18yrs) accompany them in the swimming pool (no supervision from the poolside). Those who do not have a swimming session booked are not allowed into the pool area and viewing areas are not available. Adults are responsible for ensuring that children observe physical distancing from other guests in the pool.
Access to the Gym is for over 16yrs only.
Children under the age of 16 years and all non-swimmers must be accompanied in the swimming pool at all times by a competent adult (18 years and over) swimmer. There will be a maximum of two children under the age of 16 years or non-swimmers per competent adult swimmer, at any one time.
All areas of our gardens, with the exception of the greenhouse and terrace garden, remain available to our guests to explore, relax and enjoy.
